Retaining rings are specialised fasteners, widely used in a variety of applications. They can be found in construction, numerous engineering applications, heavy and light machinery, medical equipment, automotive industry and more. It’s easy to find these fasteners in the most unlikely places, for example custom made stainless steel retaining rings were an essential component in the construction of Ieoh Ming Pei’s glass pyramid that serves as an entrance to the Louvre museum in Paris. Retaining rings have a number of advantages over conventional threaded fasteners: they are light weight, low cost and don’t require housing preparation like threading or drilling.
Circlips, also known as Snap Rings, C Clips and Jesus Clips, are a common type of retaining rings. They are designed to be fit into specially machined grooves, permitting rotation but preventing lateral movement. Circlips are usually classified into two groups – internal and external. Internal circlips fit into a bore while external go over the shaft. E Clips, also known as E Rings, serve a similar purpose, they can also be internal and external. A unique shape of the fasteners allows for a wide array of shaft sizes. Circlips and E Clips are produced form steel, stainless steel or beryllium copper, materials that allow for some degree of deformation in order to fit into the housing.
SD Products Ltd offers a large collection of Retaining Rings, Circlips and E Clips, in both metric and imperial sizes.
